Nazlin Keshwani Blends Cultures and Flavors in “American Fare with an Indian Flair”

A heartfelt culinary journey meets practical cooking in American Fare with an Indian Flair, the debut cookbook by Nazlin Keshwani. Drawing from a life shaped across continents, Keshwani offers readers a unique fusion of East African Gujarati traditions and Midwestern American comfort food.

Born to Indian parents who migrated to East Africa during the 1950s, Nazlin’s early cultural identity was already layered with diversity. Her family later relocated to the United States during the 1972 Ugandan exodus, bringing with them rich culinary traditions rooted in Indian heritage and East African influence.

However, it wasn’t until her marriage in Indiana over four decades ago that her culinary journey truly began. With no prior cooking experience, Nazlin found herself navigating a completely new food culture. As a full time engineer alongside her husband during the Texas oil boom of the 1980s, time was limited but necessity sparked creativity.

What followed was a lifetime of experimentation.

Nazlin began simplifying traditional Indian recipes while infusing American classics with bold Indian spices. The result is a cookbook that feels both comforting and adventurous, bridging cultures through food.

American Fare with an Indian Flair is more than a recipe collection. It is a story of adaptation, resilience, and identity. Each dish reflects her journey of blending heritage with modern practicality, making cooking approachable for busy families and home cooks alike.

“I didn’t know turmeric from cumin when I started,” Nazlin shares. “This book is proof that anyone can learn, experiment, and create something meaningful.”

Today, Nazlin Keshwani stands as a voice for home cooks who want to explore global flavors without complexity. Her recipes invite readers to step into the kitchen with confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment.
